The Staple Mexican Diet

And the staple Mexican diet winner is...

You got it. You probably guessed. That is it. I'm done with this posting :) No not really. If I am referring to beverages I should have a picture of beer right next to the coke.

Now, when it comes to food, tacos, or anything with a tortilla are really a fundamental part of their diets. Below, is a photo of our favorite taco place, "Civilian Tacos." The kid on the horse, is again, just a bonus in the picture.

Its open, and you can see them prepare everything. The have a small table with lemons, that you can help yourself to, and they are really onto something there. The middle picture shows Eric ordering. If you look in the picture on the right, you see a beehive looking thing. Well, that is the meet. The cook cuts the meet off in a downward motion towards the middle; the meat falling onto the freshly cooked corn tortilla.

They put salsa, tomatoes, onion, cilantro, and guacamole on it, wrapping the one taco with another corn tortilla to help keep everything in. Here is the end product:

And the happy people eating it:

These tacos run about $16 pesos a piece, just a little over a dollar. This is expensive for tacos. Most run you about $12-13 pesos. This place always has a good amount of people in it, so I think they can charge more because they are good compared to other places.

While we are on the subject of food, I must share with you Eric's recent lunch experience. At his work, part of his internship incentive was free lunch, provided by the company. Cannon has a cafeteria at the plant and everyone gets 30 minutes for lunch. This has been a blessing because not only does it save us money, but Eric doesn't need to stress about taking lunch to work.

Eric says that rice and beans are always available for lunch. Monday usually dictates what the rest of the week will look like. If they have chicken, then the chicken will be used throughout the rest of the week in tacos and such. Friday is always fried fish day.

However, lunch at the plant is not always the best. as you can see below:

This particular day, his food decided to go for a swim in oil. Poor thing. He couldn't eat very much that day. I can't remember, but I think the day he had to pick at this, we probably went to dinner for a taco.
